What is Hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy is using the state of hypnosis to assist with a variety of medical and psychological problems. It is estimated that 85% of people will respond at some level to clinical hypnotherapy. It may even succeed where other more conventional methods of treatment have not produced the desired result.

Hypnosis, a totally natural phenomenon, is simply a very comfortable and relaxed state during which it is quite easy to converse sensibly with the therapist. The myths and mystery that surround hypnosis and hypnotherapy are totally undeserved. This page will help to reassure you that what happens is very normal, certainly non-magical, with generally predictable results. It may be surprising to many to learn that we experience trance states often during the course of our lives. Even passing into ordinary sleep involves a kind of trance state. The experience of hypnosis is similar: neither asleep nor awake and a little like daydreaming, with a pleasant feeling of deep relaxation behind it.

Controlled Clinical Hypnosis

Hypnosis is a method of deep relaxation created by the therapist's voice, and associated words. You will certainly not 'lose control' at any time, nor can you be manipulated in any way. Almost anyone can enter or indeed exit the hypnotic state easily.

There is no form of unconsciousness and nobody can be made to do anything that they do not want to do; a person in hypnosis is aware of everything happening around them, aware of themselves and their therapist, and will retain a full and accurate memory of everything afterwards.

Clinical Hypnotherapy is a reliable and safe therapeutic technique which has been used for centuries and is recognized by many branches of orthodox medicine as a valuable alternative to drugs, in order to accelerate healing, and to help combat pain.
